28.11.2014

MINSK, 28 November (BelTA) - The governments of Belarus and Russia are in favor of developing a single payment system in the Eurasian Economic Union, Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich said opening the 7th meeting of the Belarus-St. Petersburg Business Cooperation Council, BelTA has learned.

This issue was discussed, among others, on the sidelines of the session of the CIS Council of CIS Heads of Government in Ashgabat with Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev. "We are in agreement on almost all issues, including on the need to strengthen the national payment systems and on the rapid establishment of a single payment system of the Eurasian Economic Union. In this respect, mutual lending and payments in national currencies will be used more actively and intensively expanded," said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

The Prime Minister noted that neither Belarus nor Russia will be able to do without a common industrial policy. Belarus proposes cooperation between enterprises to such a powerful industrial center as St. Petersburg. The head of government urged to create the appropriate conditions at the level of the governments of Belarus and St. Petersburg. It is not only about production cooperation but also about joint ventures with the elements of transnational corporations, Mikhail Myasnikovich noted.

Mikhail Myasnikovich said that the interaction between academic institutions is among the priority areas of cooperation between Belarus and St. Petersburg.
