20.02.2015

MOSCOW, 20 February (BelTA) - Belarus has received tens of thousands of refugees from Ukraine, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the Belarusian National Assembly Mikhail Myasnikovich said after the meeting with Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia Valentina Matviyenko in Moscow on 19 February, BelTA has learned.

We have received tens of thousands of refugees. We have done everything to help these people. We have sent the children to school, provided accommodation and job opportunities. For seniors we have provided some financial assistance. We have undertaken these expenses because they are our brothers, said Mikhail Myasnikovich.

Valentina Matviyenko, in turn, stressed that the Belarusians, Ukrainians and Russians are three fraternal peoples who have centuries-old ties. "We all feel with the Ukrainian people, and we are all prepared to do everything possible to stop this fratricidal war," said Valentina Matviyenko.
